Day 2 Part 2

Robot from Castle in the Sky - Ghibli Museum

Hey Y'all!  I'll try to make this quick.  Ryan has already give you the run down of our travel and first day (while I've been sleeping).  My feet are killing me, though I am hoping that they will soon toughen up.  Hopefully a good nights rest will do them some good.  As it is, I was practically limping to dinner.  Luckily there was a quaint little sushi shop about a block down the street from us.  They didn't have any sort of picture signs outside, but Ryan assured me it was a sushi shop.

Archery Girls going to Harajuku station. Look at those bows!

When I peaked in I saw the chef sitting on one of the chairs watching TV.  I deemed this acceptable.  Normally, in ATL if a shop didn't have any patrons I'd worry about the quality of food, but there are just SO MANY restaurants here it seemed right. We went in and the chef and I assume his wife went to work.  It seated 6, all around the sushi bar.  Ryan ordered chefs choice nigiri for us and he went to work.  We received the following: Hot green tea, 1 egg nigiri, 1 roe nigiri, 1 tuna, 1 sweet shrimp, 1 grilled eel, and 3 mysterious but delicious pieces of fish we couldn't identify. It was all mostly delicious (personally not a fan of sweet shrimp and roe).  Oh! It also came with some super delicious shrimp and miso broth complete with shrimp head.  It was so good.  You have no idea.

While we were eating a nice old woman came in to eat.  She tried to talk to us, which was sweet of her.  She commented on how good the food was there, and that it is her favorite sushi shop.

Soot Sprites from various - Ghibli Museum

As for earlier this afternoon, we went to the Ghibili museum.  Words cannot describe how amazing that museum is. I suppose that's also why they don't allow photographs inside. Keeps the allure about the place.

A Note About Ghibli:  If you don't know what Ghibli is it's time you get acquainted. It is arguably THE best animation stuido in Japan if not the world. This is particularly true with anything by Hayao Miyazaki. So much so that I believe ALL of Miyazaki's works have been released in the USA through Disney. His current films even come out in theaters (though usually a year later) in the states. So, if you haven't done so, pick some of his works up and watch them.  Favorites include My Neighbor Totoro, Howl's Moving Castle, Spirited Away, and Princess Mononoke.

All the people walking along Takeshita-Dori in Harajuku

Sadly I didn't not find the Harajuku girls on the bridge.  I think we got there just a little to late. While I'm sad that we didn't find them there, we did see a few walking around, though I didn't get to see any of the dancing kids.

Hello Kitty in Sesame Street costumes

Let just quickly say that Ryan's Japanese language skills though sparse have come in handy on several occasion thus far.

Well, that's it for me. We are off to Osaka tomorrow.  Goodnight!
