After hanging everything we could around the room to air dry a bit, we left for lunch. We had read there was a good restaurant somewhat close that was run by a Danish guy and had a full set of Danish food, so we thought we’d go there. We hailed a taxi, and showed him the address, and of course he couldn’t read without glasses, or work his own navigation properly, and then when we got somewhat close, he couldn’t follow the navigation and ended up in a weird street the opposite direction he was supposed to be going. After we struggled to communicate to each other that he was going the wrong way we just decided to get out wherever we were because clearly this was going to be an issue. We walked the few more blocks to the restaurant and found that they had changed their menu and now it was very meh. There were a ton of other places in the neighborhood so we walked around and finally settled on a Japanese French Bistro (I know, Japanese French fusion in Korea, seems weird) because it looked quaint and seemed like it might be tasty.
We got a set menu that had a Scotch Egg, an Omelette Rice, and a sausage. It was pretty tasty though needing a bit of salt, and was definitely nicely presented. Meghan and I kept burping up the Scotch Egg later on, which was a little unpleasant.
Extremely dedicated salad arrangement!
I was excited for full size, multiple ply paper napkins... Most places have tiny single ply cocktail napkins only
Perfectly cooked egg
We walked back to Hongdae to hit the tax refund kiosk one more time and then headed back to the Airbnb again to start the rest of the laundry and get packing. It was a little challenging to get all the stuff we bought into one bag, but luckily we brought an extra one if we need it for our Japan purchases!
Do you like freshly baked clothes? Come to Korea and use their washer/dryer combos! The drying is done entirely with heat and no air, so your clothes get super toasty while they take approximately forever to get all the water out. In addition to shrinking a pair of socks, we definitely accidentally mixed some colors and lights and dyed a few pieces of our clothing... Hopefully some Rit dye remover will clear that situation up when we get back, though it's good and ovened in from that crazy dryer. We did a wash-only cycle on the second load first to pull some of the items out to hang dry, and the spin dry is clearly EXTREMELY WEAK too, because we had to wring out every piece by hand. All together it was kind of a disaster.
After all the laundry issues, we went out for some more Korean BBQ for dinner. Our meat was taking a really long time to cook, so I used Google translate to say that the fire seemed really low to the waiter, who whipped out his phone to tell me that he needed to add more charcoal. He also opened the vent to feed the coal because for some reason it was totally closed. After the heat got back going, we finally got all the meat cooked and stuffed ourselves full.
We stopped for a cupcake on the way back which was underwhelming and then stopped in to finish taking care of the last load of baked clothing.
After we got most things packed up we headed back to Cheonggyecheon Plaza to see it all lit up at night. We sat by the stream, listened to a buskers, and enjoyed the night air.
We walked back to the station and headed back towards home, and got two stations down before realizing we had gone the wrong direction after mixing up Seongsu and Sangsu stations... And the station we got out on was a long walk around to get to the other direction. Total subway fail on a night where we were just trying to relax.
Eventually we got back and packed a tiny bit more before heading to bed.
